A4. Real numbers
Calculate with Standard index form backcontentsmore
Numbers written in standard index form, ie., in the form a x 10b, where 1£a<10, can be multiplied together. Here are some examples:

(2 × 104) × (3 × 103)=(2×3) × (104 × 103)=6 × 107
(3 × 103) × (4 × 102)=(3×4) × (103 × 102)=12 × 105=1.2 × 106

Numbers written in standard form can be divided too:

(8 × 103) ÷ (4 × 102)=(8÷4) × (103 ÷ 102)=2 × 101
(3 × 107) ÷ (6 × 103)=(3÷6) × (107 ÷ 103)=0.5 × 104=5 × 103
Multiply or divide two numbers and give the answer in standard index form. Then check to see if you are correct. If your answer is wrong, help is given so you can see where your mistake is. Press a button to get started.

( × 10 )     ×     ( × 10 )
