Cube root backcontentsmore
2 x 2 x 2=8, or 2³=8, so 8 is the cube of 2. 2 is the cube root of 8.

Similarly, 3³=27, so 27 is the cube of 3, and 3 is the cube root of 27.

4³=64, so 64 is the cube of 4, and 4 is the cube root of 64.
5³=125, so 125 is the cube of 5, and 5 is the cube root of 125.
6³=216, so 216 is the cube of 6, and 6 is the cube root of 216.
You should know these cubes "by heart":
2³=8, 3³=27, 4³=64, 5³=125, 6³=216, 7³=343

These cube numbers are often used in examination questions, so when you see them you should bear in mind that their cube root might be useful in solving the problem.

The cube root of a number, n, can also be written as:
cube root
