Momentum backmore
The momentum of a particle is a vector quantity given by the product of its mass and its velocity, ie., momentum = mv, where m kg is the mass of a particle abd v m/s is its velocity.
The principle of conservation of momentum states that when two particles collide:
the total momentum before impact = the total momentum after impact
momentum
In the diagram, u1 > u2 so that the particles collide. Conservation of momentum gives:
m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2
