y=a((bx-c)3+d)
Investigate the effect of changing a, b, c or d.

Summary
Make sure you are clear avout the different effects that changing a, b, c or d can have on the shape and position of the curve.
  • a affects amplitude
  • b affects frequency
  • c changes the horizontal position

graphic calculatorA note about graphic calculators
A graphic calculator may be allowed in your exam. The TI-83, or similar model, can display cubic graphs for you.

Select the Y= screen:
Enter Y1 = y = A((BX-C)3+D)
Then select the GRAPH screen. You can then choose different values for the constants A, B, C and D. For example, to make B = 1, press 1 store ALPHA B.
