Distribution of the sample mean backmore
The experiment consists of selecting a random sample of size n from a specified distribution. The sample mean and standard deviation are recorded in the last table on each update. The sample size n can be varied with a scroll bar. The sampling distribution can be selected from the list box; the options are the normal, gamma, binomial, and Poisson. For each distribution, the appropriate parameters can be varied with scroll bars. The distribution density and moments are shown in blue in the first graph and the moments are recorded in the first table. On each update, the sample density and moments are shown in red the first graph and the sample moments are recorded in the first table. The sample values are recorded in the second table. The density and moments of the sample mean M are shown in blue in the second graph and the moments are recorded in third table. On each update, the empirical density and moments are shown in red in the second graph and the moments are recorded in the third table. The sample mean M and standard deviation S are recorded in the last table on each update.
