"Today's
prescription is all about math. Boring, you say? Well, not so fast! One of the
most definitive ways of measuring a site's success is how effectively it draws
you into the subject matter (even if you don't care about the topic). On this
score, MathsNet succeeds brilliantly. This is a great site and a lot of fun
with puzzles, animations, articles and fascinating lore about numbers. There's
even a helpful collection of mathematics-related software for download. There's
a lot here to stimulate the ol' gray matter and you'll likely to have so much
fun, that you'll forget that you're actually learning something."Dr Webster's Web Site of the Day, 24 July 1997 |
"Solving problems and doing equations either on the computer
or in the classroom can become more entertaining and easier thanks to MathsNet,
an online teacher's resource about mathematics education, information
technology, and the Internet. From here, teachers can easily jump to
information on other mathematics resources, software, and articles." Overall rating: 4 stars, NetGuide.Com. |

| "Hot Site for Teachers." The School Page, November 1997 |
|||
| "A useful and entertaining resource,
MathsNet provides insight into mathematical concepts, ideas for making math
more relevant, and links to additional sites where you can gather more
information. The most entertaining is Aerobi-graphs -- a section where students
use their bodies to show concepts in graphing. Be sure to check out the videos!
They really make graphing concepts come alive! There is a great section on
fractals and additional sections on spreadsheets and graphs, each with pictures
and animations. Try the Daily Puzzle and check out the Daily Fact. You may want to bookmark this site so you can check it daily. You can even submit a Daily Fact! If you're purchasing or using a graphing calculator, there is a lot of information on each brand of calculator, its functions, and links to sites where you can download information to use with a particular calculator. Find out more about using graphs and spreadsheets. Be sure to check out the animations which dramatically demonstrate mathematical principles." graphs, there are areas for specific educational software and articles by
contributors from the United Kingdom. Read about fractals and graphing
calculators, including the EL-9600, and find links to maths sites for
individuals, organizations, and publishers. MathsNet offers a selection of
mathematical puzzles of various kinds." March 1998 Hot Spot The Math Forum, Swarthmore |

maths lessons because you were so bored? This site might just change your mind.

teachers and students! Software, resources, activities, special focus areas on
interactive geometry and graphic calculators, the MathsNet site from the UK is
well worth a bookmark: I am sure you will be back for more!"Site of the Week, Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, September 1998 |

| "The site contains much
more including a puzzle page, an area devoted to fractals and an excellent
links section classified by mathematical topic. This would be a good resource
for students and teachers at schools which are switching DOS-based versions of
logo to Winlogo. Using graph-processing software and hardware in education, the site contains excellent features including animations showing transformations, a puzzle page, an area devoted to fractals, a links section classified by mathematical topic, and video clips with music offering aerobic interpretations of families of curves. Some features would invite follow-up by the students on graphics calculators/omnigraph. The site would be also suitable for KS5." BBC Education Webguide, October 1998 |

First Prize for Transformations: "The
jury has appreciated this large set of web pages where one will be instructed
about geometric transformations. From ICT point of view, working with them is
very easy, in spite of the fact that mathematics in the highest levels is not
so easy! Wholly interactive, you get an immediate response on what you have
done. It constitutes a superior example of use of a preexisting environments in
building good didactic materials. "Mathplets 2000, European Schoolnet, July 2000. |

impressively wide range of resources to encourage understanding in maths.
Interactive tasks persuade you to "do some maths now"; puzzles, animations,
articles, links and downloadable software are also on the menu. The What's New
section is updated weekly, and Daily Mathematical Facts, Hourly Puzzles and
quotes make this an addicitve and truly dynamic site." Educational Computing and Technology Magazine, July 2000 |

"When it comes to big beefy maths sites, this
one from Anglia, is a monster. It's got a huge selection of resources in its
many pages, neatly tied in to the specifics of the National Curriculum, as well
as some more general maths stuff, including puzzles, software to download and
news on related issues, such as ICME9, the International Mathematics Conference
recently held in Japan. As well as daily facts and puzzles, there's plenty to
really get your teeth into here, ranging from childishly simple to downright
dastardly - problems that would give even Carol Vordeman a good run for her
money." 5 stars, |

catchy website. Pop over to the interactive puzzles section and before you know

Overall, the time spent in exploring the site will save time later, and I am sure that is one of the main reasons that Bryan Dye has developed this excellent site... This website is huge, but has tremendous possibilities to Maths teachers throughout the age range from KS1 to A Level ... It supports teaching and given time, can be an invaluable tool to help teachers deliver lessons interactively and in a way that enhances learning. A great site that every Maths teacher should visit." | "Number one MathsNet.net is a website sans pareil for anyone with any interest in mathematics. Bryan Dye has received many awards for his site, which will help thousands of students, teachers and researchers explore a vast treasure house of mathematics... The home page greets you with so much interesting material I was not sure where to start. Since I have an interest in dynamic geometry software (DGS) I looked at the interactive geometry link. This offered far more than I ever imagined. Java applets allow you to interact with the software and all the major programs can be explored without the need to have any installed. Where next? I then visited the GCSE revision site and was delighted with what I saw. Neatly sorted links allow pupils to revise at their own pace and practise whatever they want. Make sure your students are aware of this site, but beware - they may never bother you again. AS/A2 or algebra, GCSE or geometry, enrichment and entertainment: this site has it all. This review took me absolutely ages since I kept getting trapped in the activities that abound on the site. However, I now know where my pupils will be going frequently. Make this site your number one priority." Peter Ransom, TES, January 10th 2003. |
