MAIN RESOURCE SUMMARY
As this is the first newsletter of a new (UK ) academic year I will summarise the main curriculum resources on MathsNet. They are:

ASA2 Mathematics: www.mathsnet.net/asa2/modules/
Geometry: www.mathsnet.net/geometry/
Graphs: www.mathsnet.net/graphs/
Fractions: www.mathsnet.net/fractions/

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
The discussion forum at www.mathsnet.net/forum/ has been updated and restarted. Please make a constribution to get some discussion going. The ASA2 material also includes a discussion forum (at www.mathsnet.net/asa2/modules/forum/) aimed specifically at students and teachers of ASA2 maths. Please make a contribution here, particularly in the light of recent exam results. Is the crisis in A-Level mathematics showing any sign of abatting? The Mechanics module M1 at www.mathnset.net/asa2/modules/m1.html has been developed with applets illustrating some of the key concepts.

The numeracy resources both at Number Cruncher (www.mathsnet.net/cruncher/) and The Framework (www.mathsnet.net/nns/) have been updated to include applets made available on the DFES Standards site. Highlights include Monty and NumberGrid.

I have added a new search page, called Floogle Search, at www.mathsnet.net/floogle/ that combines the Google search engine with Flash 6 (which you may need to download) to produce a useful search method within MathsNet.

The online interactive dictionary of mathematical terms continues to be developed at www.mathsnet.net/dictionary/. The idea is simple: to make available on one page a whole range of definitions of common terms, using diagrams wherever possible.

At www.mathsnet.net/geometry/solid/ there are some 3D activities using applets kindly lent to me by the Freudenthal Institute at www.fi.uu.nl. Finally, the Graphs material includes a new applet, again from the Freudenthal Institute, that enables the user to construct flow diagrams and graphs to illustrate algrebraic processes. Find it at www.mathsnet.net/graphs/algebralines.html. It may remind you of the program Numerator that Longman Logotron used to publish.

CURRENT PROJECTS
The Further Maths modules, P4, P5 and P6 are going to be developed and I will be reviewing some "apps" fro the TI-83 Plus that TI are promoting on their education website. On the geometry side, you can see the first part of some pages that use CabriJava to illustrate aspects of Richard Feynman's "lost lecture" on the motion of the planets around the sun: www.mathsnet.net/cabri/feynman.html.

MAIN RESOURCE SUMMARY
The main curriculum resources on MathsNet are:

ASA2 Mathematics: www.mathsnet.net/asa2/modules/
GCSE Mathematics: www.mathsnet.net/gcse/
Geometry: www.mathsnet.net/geometry/
Graphs: www.mathsnet.net/graphs/
Fractions: www.mathsnet.net/fractions/

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
Please contribute to the general discussion forum at www.mathsnet.net/forum/ or to the ASA2 discussion forum at www.mathsnet.net/asa2/modules/forum/ .
The ASA2 Further Pure module P4 at www.mathnset.net/asa2/modules/p4.html has been extensively developed. The ASA2 resource now comprises in total well over 800 individual topics or interactive questions.

The puzzles area at www.mathsnet.net/puzzles.html includes three new Jave-based games: Siji, TicTacToe and 3D TictacToe.

A new resource, Interactive GCSE Mathematics (www.mathsnet.net/gcse/) has been launched. This consists of a set of Intermediate level GCSE exam questions designed to help students improve their grade from D to C maybe even to B!

CURRENT PROJECTS
I am still planning to review some "apps" fro the TI-83 Plus that TI are promoting on their education website. The Interactive GCSE material is to be expanded.

There is a response to an article in the TES of 18 October 2002 headed "If maths equals tedium, what's the solution?" at www.mathsnet.net/articles/tedium.html .

A new resource, Interactive GCSE Mathematics (www.mathsnet.net/gcse/) is now substantially developed. It contains a collection over 140 Intermediate level GCSE exam questions. Each one can be altered by the user to allow changes of numerical information within the same question - always with step-by-step answers provided. This provides an almost limitless variety of questions. In addition, questions are gathered into short exam papers, designed to be printed out and worked on away from the computer. The overall aim is to help students improve their grade from a D to a C or, maybe, from a C to a B!

CURRENT PROJECTS
I am still planning to review some "apps" fro the TI-83 Plus that TI are promoting on their education website.

Modules P1 and S1 include examination questions from November 2002 and there is a printable page of P1 questions which is also interactive.
A new resource, Interactive Algebra (www.mathsnet.net/algebra/) is substantially developed. It is similar in style to Interactive GCSE but covers formal algebra suitable for students from Year 6 to Year 11 (or 10 to 16 year olds). There is a page on constructing your own function machine and an applet (thanks to Waldomaths at www.waldomaths.com) on solving simple linear equations.

CURRENT PROJECTS
The Interactive Algebra and GCSE courses are still being extended.
