RECENT DEVELOPMENTS Ofsted
has come and gone - an uplifting experience raising the standards of learning
for all our students, or an appaulling process carried out by genial hatchet
men and women: you decide.
Development on the subscription site at
http://www.mathsnetgcse.com has continued and a major site overhaul and new
look will be coming soon over the summer. More games have been added to the
Puzzles page http://www.mathsnet.net/puzzles.html. Try "Packing crate", a new
approach at the traditional maze solving puzzle. A java chess game, Ludochess,
is added to the ChessClub at http://www.mathsnet.net/puzzles/chess/. The
"Geometry in 3D" section at http://www.mathsnet.net/geometry/solid includes an
isometric drawing applet courtesy of the Illuminations site from the National
Council of Teachers of Mathematics in the USA.
Now that specifications
for the new ASA2 Mathematics qualification are appearing on exam board
websites, http://www.mathsnet.net/asa2/2004/ includes references to some of the
differences between Edexcel, AQA and OCR. The site now runs to 1110 pages of
resources. According to Edexcel at least it looks possible for next year's
Year 13 to take modules C1, C2, C3 and C4 to go with old spec modules M1 and S1
from this year. I wonder how many schools are racing desperately to finish
the AS syllabus with Year 12 students about to vanish on so-called study leave
in a couple of weeks' time? |
