Further information
Since the Framework for Teaching Mathematics for Key Stage 3 was launched in Spring 2001, MathsNet has been developing interactive material to support aspects of Algebra and Shape and Space. Year 6 is also included.
The references and quotes are from the yearly teaching programmes in the Framework for teaching Years 7 to 9. The resources referenced are either to material already existing on MathsNet, or to new (indicated with new) material created specifically for the FTM.

Sources
The main source was the Framework itself. The java applets used also provided inspiration for ideas too.

Technical
These pages are not just static text and pictures, but contain interactive resources that use various web technologies. If you are using a recent browser, then the interactivity on every page should operate - apart from those using LiveMath or Flash, which will need plugins installed first.
L =LiveMath
These pages require a plugin to be downloaded from the LiveMath web site and then installed in your browser. The plug-in is free and installation is straightforward. All LiveMath pages will then load quickly and the interactive elements will appear almost immediately too.
Pages like these can be created by you. To do this you will need to buy the software from LiveMath.
C =Cinderella
Cinderella is a dynamic geometry program written in Java. When you first access one of these pages there will be a delay while the necessary files are downloaded. Depending on the speed of your access to the internet this could take as long as 45 seconds to a minute, maybe longer.
For these pages to function correctly, you need a java-ready browser. According to the creators of Cinderella (web site: Cinderella), these browsers will work: Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.06, 4.07, 4.08, 4.5 for Windows and Unix (not Macintosh), Netscape Navigator 4.5 with Java 1.1 patch, or Internet Explorer 4, 4.01, 5.
Pages like these can be created by you. To do this you will need to buy the software from Cinderella.
J =Javamath
Javamath applets are a collection of applets written by Professor David J. Eck (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York 14456). Website: http://math.hws.edu/eck/. They should download fairly quickly.
W =WebEQ
WebEQ, published by www.mathtype.com, is a java applet which produces interactive mathematical equations. When you first access one of these pages there will be a delay while the necessary files are downloaded. Depending on the speed of your access to the internet this could take as long as 45 seconds to a minute, maybe longer. You can download a demo version from their web site.
webeq viewer Click on this button to download the WebEQ viewer which should speed up the downloading of WebEQ pages.
These pages have also made extensive use of MathType itself to create accurate mathematical notation. Go to Resources for more information about buying MathType.
F =Flash
Flash is an multimedia program published by Macromedia that creates interactive graphics. Your browser will need to have the Flash plugin installed - freely available from Macromedia. If any pages do not function and yet you do have the Flash plugin installed, check that you have the Flash 5 version. The Flash 4 plugin will not be adequate for these pages.
S =JavaScript
These pages are created by MathsNet and use JavaScript to produce interactive forms.

These resources are still in the development stage. Please send any comments and feedback
